Commission the Artist – Edgar J. Brown Sports Artist

Commission a One-of-a-Kind Sports Masterpiece

As a world-renowned sports artist, Edgar J. Brown creates custom acrylic paintings that capture the power, drama, and legacy of professional athletes, iconic moments, and personal sports stories. Whether it's a game-defining play, a portrait of a legend, a tribute to a hero, or a celebration of your own athletic journey, each original is 100% hand-painted on canvas.

Every commission is a unique original, signed by the artist, and can include optional autographs from the featured athlete when feasible through Edgar's established connections.

The Commission Process

Edgar approaches every commission with a clear philosophy: you hire him for his vision, his interpretation, and his artistic voice. The final painting reflects how he sees the subject and moment—not a collaborative edit process.

1

Initial Consultation (Free)

Schedule a call or video conference (or in-person meeting if local) to discuss your idea, the athlete or moment, desired size, budget, and timeline. Share any reference photos, clips, or specific details.

2

Quote & 50% Deposit

Edgar sends a detailed proposal with the final price and estimated timeline (typically 1–2 months for completion). A 50% non-refundable deposit secures your spot and begins the project.

3

Rough Pencil Concept Sketch

After receiving the deposit, Edgar creates a very rough hand-drawn pencil sketch of the composition and concept. This is a traditional pencil sketch done by hand—no digital tools are used. He shares this single sketch with you once for approval or minor adjustments. This is the only stage for feedback.

4

Painting Phase

Once the concept is approved, Edgar begins painting. The work is 100% hand-painted in acrylic on high-quality canvas. During this stage, he does not send progress photos or updates on the artwork itself—only timeline updates as needed. This preserves the integrity of his creative process and ensures the final piece is delivered as a true surprise.

5

Completion & Final Payment

When the painting is finished, Edgar notifies you. Upon receipt of the remaining 50% payment, he professionally photographs the work and arranges shipping (fully insured, at buyer's expense) or local pickup/delivery. The client sees the finished painting only upon delivery—no changes, edits, or revisions are offered after painting begins.

Additional Notes

  • All originals are signed by Edgar J. Brown.
  • Copyright: Edgar J. Brown retains full copyright to all commissioned works unless otherwise negotiated and agreed upon in writing prior to the start of the project.
  • Framing, shipping, insurance, and any travel (if required for reference) are not included in the painting price.
  • Major changes after the rough pencil sketch is approved may require a new quote or be declined to maintain artistic vision.
  • Edgar works with a limited number of commissions per year to ensure the highest quality and attention to each piece.
  • In some cases Edgar will meet with the client or athlete and take reference photos to work from. Sometimes that might involve arrangements to sketch and/or photograph live sporting events. Additional accommodation fees may apply.
