Commemorative Hambletonian Artist 1994 and 1996
The Hambletonian at the Meadowlands Racetrack, is the most prestigious race in Harness Racing. It’s hard to believe that almost three decades ago I was named the Hambletonian artist of the year in both 1994 and 1996. The original 1994 painting is currently hanging in the Meadowlands Racetrack corporate office. The 1996 original painting is in my private collection, both paintings were published and the image was used to create 275 limited editions lithographs, 2500 posters and 30,000 program covers. I was thrilled to hear that in 1995 the Hambletonian artist of the year was Leroy Neiman.
My father, William Hyland, was the Chairman of the Meadowlands at the time and I met and he signed artwork of the horses and presented it to my father that evening at the Hamiltonian. It was exciting and an honor to meet him. I still have that artwork on my wall.
